The Inside Operators

How much of your business runs on people, not a system?

The Operating Audit

Eighteen marks. Five minutes. You will see which part of your standard still lives in a person instead of in your operations, and which location it walks out of first.

Rate each one against the operation you know best. There is no wrong answer here, and nobody sees this but you until you ask for the breakdown.

  1. My best operation could run a full month without me and still hit its numbers.
  2. The way we open, close and run a shift is written down, and the written version is the one people actually follow.
  3. A new operation can be brought to our standard without me spending most of my week inside it.
  4. If my strongest manager gave notice tomorrow, that operation would hold its standard.
  5. If I were unreachable for two weeks, no decision would sit waiting for me.
  6. I can name the person each operation leans on, and losing them would not cost us a quarter.
  7. My newest operation runs the same way my best one does.
  8. A customer would get the same experience in my weakest operation as in my strongest.
  9. When we change how something is done, every operation is doing it the new way within a month.
  10. On a bad day, when I'm not there, my team still holds the standard.
  11. My people hold each other to the standard when no manager is watching.
  12. A new hire learns how we do things from the team, not from whoever happens to be on shift.
  13. My best operators can train the next set to my exact standard, without me in the room.
  14. Someone other than me can take a new manager from their first day to the full standard.
  15. Our training is a system that repeats, not something we run when we are short-handed.
  16. I can name the number that tells me which operations are slipping, and by how much.
  17. I score each operation against the standard on a set cadence, not after something goes wrong.
  18. I could show, with numbers, whether an operation got better over the last six months.

What this score is for

A number tells you that something slipped. It does not tell you which location, or what it costs you. That is the conversation.

Talk it through

No pricing is quoted from a score. We look at your locations first.

Let’s Talk.

Every chain has locations that run on one person. Name yours, and we will scope The IO Install against them.
